Qui veut danser?

When I first heard à la queue leu leu, I filed it away under Charming Expressions Claire Uses That I Will Never Remember. Wrong. The expression, which roughly translates as lining up in single file, popped up again in Simenon’s Maigret et l’homme du banc, and I decided to investigate further. Turns out that leu has its roots in the Latin word “lupus,” and I can just see those wolves trotting along in an orderly row. But this chanson populaire by Bézu may be the most useful mnemonic device all:
